Chris's Picks

In the retail shop I run, I am asked to pick out wines everyday and I hope I can pass that along to you as well through this site.  Rememeber, if there is ever a wine you are looking for and you don't see it on our wine site, please send me an e-mail and I will try to help you on your quest.

Well here we are, this is the page where you'll find some of my personal favorite wine selections.  I sample new wines frequently and I am always searching for special wine selections to pass on to you.  There will be value wines, some pricey wines, wines from all over the world, and local wines. All or most wines are not available everywhere, although we'll carry a good amount to provide our customers.  I know you will find a wine perfect for your table.

Casa Di Rocco Chianti Classico Riserva 1999
Category: Chris's Wine Picks
Casa Di Rocco Chianti Classico Riserva 1999

Casa di Rocco brings the traditional tastes of Italy in wines reflecting Italy’s 3000-year-old winemaking tradition. Chianti Riserva: Nose and palate of dark fruit, layered with blackberries and toasty oak from oak aging. Oak-aging brings a richness to stand up to most meats and heavier pasta dishes. It nicely complements aged hard Italian cheeses as well as gorgonzola. The Chianti Classico Riserva is aged 24 months in Slavonian casks to add a tannic touch to balance the high acid of the Sangiovese grape. Uniquely 100% Sangiovese, grapes are grown on vines as old as 30 years for a rich, rarified taste of the Tuscan heartland.

Paringa Sparkling Shiraz 2004

Paringa Sparkling Shiraz 2004

When the Grateful Palate first started selling wine here in the states, buyers rejected the idea of Sparkling Shiraz with skepticism but from the very beginning, when placed in retail accounts, it sold. At first perhaps on curiosity value, but when consumers tried it, they liked it. We began to bring in versions from six or seven of our wineries as sales grew but we noticed there were no value-priced versions in our portfolio or the general market. Enter David Hickinbotham and this wine. In 2004 David has committed a substantial portion of the Paringa Shiraz harvest to this ultra-value Sparkling Shiraz. The juice is Paringa Shiraz with bubbles and a dosage. It’s dark, rich, and juicy - full of fruit flavor and bubbles. It is gorgeous to look at and surprisingly complex and stunning to drink. Saturated deep magenta red. Crisp clean raspberry blueberry fruits. Velvety creamy tannins persistent length of palate delightful full flavoured finish.

St. Michael-Eppan Pinot Grigio 2007
Category: Chris's Wine Picks
St. Michael-Eppan Pinot Grigio 2007
Light green lustres run through the straw colour of this wine whose aroma is rich in fruits, the most striking of which are pears. An excellent acidity balance gives this wine strength and structure . It is dry and smooth on the palate, and leaves a long, pleasant aftertaste. The Pinot Grigio goes well with many dishes, especially lighter foods, to which it is an exellent accompaniment. It is served chilled and also bestows a fine taste following longer ageing.
